The Rainbow Nation series celebrates the commonalities we share across all cultures, as well as the things that make us unique, although one could easily interpret this as the multiple shades of our personalities too.
During the leadership of Nelson Mandela the phrase was popularized in South Africa. As president, he was challenged with uniting South Africa after years of oppression and segregation. When South Africa won the rugby world cup, the we all celebrated as one, as the Rainbow Nation!
This print series depicts people from different backgrounds through a multi-coloured lens, eliminating the mechanism of segregation. The series continued onto walls in the form of murals in many cases, placing the artwork in public areas bringing the message of tolerance to more people.
